On April 23, 2018, the Interim Chairperson initiated a review into the RCMP's crime reduction- type units, pursuant to subsection 45.34(1) of the RCMP Act.

The Commission will examine:

  • the RCMP's accountability frameworks in place in relation to crime reduction units;
  • whether RCMP national and divisional policies and training are adequate, appropriate, sufficient and clear; and
  • what measures the RCMP has in place to evaluate the efficacy of crime reduction-type enforcement units.

Once the investigation is complete, a report containing any findings and recommendations will be provided to the Minister of Public Safety and the RCMP Commissioner, as well as provincial ministers responsible for policing in contract provinces. A copy of the report will also be publicly available.
